Ensuring and facilitating the supply of energy from infrastructure networks

From urbanization to the modernization of energy transport and distribution networks, from infrastructure development in emerging countries to advances in telecommunications, Nexans helps deliver electricity efficiently and securely, and ensures network reliability.

Transporting energy and data securely

The Group provides secure, readily available solutions for energy infrastructures, railway and road systems, ports and airports, and telecommunications networks.

Aerial power networkNo matter how demanding the application, Nexans can use its expertise to offer integrated monitoring and control systems that optimize the capacity, improve the reliability and extend the longevity of networks.

The world leader in high-voltage subsea and overhead networks, Nexans has exclusive know-how when it comes to manufacturing, installing and connecting subsea cables that must be able to withstand corrosion for many decades. As a result, the Group participates in some major cross-border interconnection projects. Two examples are the Nigeria-Niger overhead power link and the NEANOA line in Argentina, which is part of an interconnection project between Chile and Brazil.

Facilitating access to electricity for local populations

In emerging countries, 1.6 billion people still live without electricity and many of the people who do have access only have a minimal supply of power. In developed countries, numerous isolated regions are without high-speed Internet connections. Nexans is helping overcome this digital divide with highly competitive solutions that motivate operators to develop their networks.

Competitive solutions

Lightweight, rugged and easy to connect and recycle, overhead line aluminum alloy conductors like AERO-Z® allow competitive transport networks to be installed quickly over long distances. They are a powerful alternative to traditional conductors, which, when saturated, often require additional energy production using turbines that are highly polluting and very costly in terms of fossil fuels.

Limiting installation work, preserving biodiversity

Either on its own initiative or upon the request of its customers, Nexans develops innovative cabling solutions that help mitigate the impact of installation projects or simply lessen the effects on the natural or urban environment.

 Optimized infrastructures

Preserving the islands

Nexans manufactures and installs cables that connect islands to the mainland in order to cover their needs during high season. These projects have been carried out in Greece, the Balearic Islands, Delma Island of Abu Dhabi, Hainan Island to the south of China, on several islands in Thailand and on islands located near the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Not only is this solution less expensive than constructing a power plant, it also avoids resorting to the use of diesel generators, which can be highly polluting and noisy.

Lessening the environmental impact

Lightweight, rugged and easy to connect and recycle overhead line aluminum alloy conductors allow us to reduce the number of pylons required for a project by 12% as well as limit their height. This was the solution chosen for the long-range sections of the trans-Amazonian line currently under construction.
Superconductor cables are the future for more populated urban environments.

The Group’s teams have demonstrated remarkable creativity in another growth area: solutions that help avoid multiple installation projects, which can be costly and disruptive for residents.
