12 Fiber Harness Assembly Berk-Tek’s Optical Harness Assembly enables superb cabling management, flexibility and control using staggered links optimized to grow as your Storage Area Network system grows.
Standards
International  Manufacturer specification
Description

The I/O density of active devices is increasing.  Blade chassis currently reach 48 optical ports (96 LC connectors) per blade with blade densities reaching eight to 18 per chassis.  This creates a challenging optical cabling and connectivity management situation.

Berk-Tek’s Optical Harness Assembly enables superb cabling management using staggered links optimized to grow as your system grows while maintaining flexibility and control.

Each harness connects to the MTP(R) connector of your trunk cabling.  This means you can install your trunk cabling sized to lifetime capacity while allowing you to add harnesses as your blade (port) population grows.

FEATURES BENEFITS
Plenum rated cable Harness kits allow blade by blade growth while maintaining clean cable management
MTP (male) termination on one end High density harness assemblies with a very small profile enable clean, manageable blade deployments
Available with LC, SC, and other standards approved optical connectors Comprehensive fiber portfolio ensures maximum bandwidth across your data center
Optical fiber options include OM3, OM4/OM4+, OS1/2, OM1/2 as well as bend insensitive variations for these same fibers Custom harness configurations created for your specific installation
Customizable leg lengths
1.6 mm breakout leg furcations are standard. Other diameters available
User specified labeling available

 CONSTRUCTION

Each optical harness is a small diameter twelve fiber cable of the specified fiber type.  One end of the assembly is terminated to a 12 fiber pinned MTP (male) connector and the  opposing fiber ends are terminated to user specified simplex or duplex connectors (LC or SC are typical).

With each harness the stagger between pairs of connectors is set to minimize the excess cabling to be managed.  Additionally, individual harnesses incorporated into a kit are themselves staggered precisely so that negligible excess cabling is the norm.

Custom configurations are typically designed so the harness is ideally suited for the user’s component layout. .  Kits can then be configured to support blade by blade growth.

Standard kits are also available for certain Brocade or Cisco active devices.

Better Capital Management with Gradual SAN Deployment

By using Berk-Tek Harness Assemblies, you can fully cable your network backbone, safely and effectively terminating these fiber trunks to MTP patch panels located beneath the switch chassis.

Then, you can gradually add blades to the switch chassis to meet increasing traffic demands. This gradual build out approach allows you to not only manage your capital investments, it also enables you to reduce outsourced labor costs by simply having existing staff add the harness assemblies when they are needed.
