The Department of Energy is sponsoring a series of E-Forums (web-based presentations or "Webinars") on Smart Grid benefits. The Valley Group recently participated in the first such E-Forum.
These forums present successful strategies and case studies of new technology implementation relevant to the development of the Smart Grid. The technologies include everything from distribution automation systems to new power quality control devices to AMI deployments.
The Valley Group participated in the first such presentation and discussed our CAT-1 Real Time Monitoring System. The major benefit of this system is that by providing REAL-TIME monitoring, the system operator gains an extremely accurate view of the line conditions. Whereas other technology relies on static ratings, the CAT-1 system measures the actual line status, allowing the system operators to maximize line performance without risking overload.
In fact, transmission owners can transmit up to 30% more power over 90% of the time! That increase represents a significant improvement in system performance and maximizes system efficiency and profitability.
