Berk-Tek Celebrates 50 years of Innovation and Excellence

On May 1, 2011, Berk-Tek will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of its founding by Joseph Boscov in Reading, Pennsylvania.

The 50th Anniversary theme of "Innovation & Excellence" is illustrated in the anniversary logo and succesfully captures the past, reinforces the current vision and values, and will be the foundation for an exciting future.

The PAST

Berkshire Technical Products began as a producer of "high-temp" wire products. An early application was for "wet wire" used in sono buoys for the US Navy. In the 1970s, the company was one of the first to develop fluoropolymer insulated plenum cables. In the 1980s, Berk-Tek developed and launched a fiber optic product family and, in 1990, established a production facility in Fuquay-Varina, NC. Since the 1990s, Berk-Tek has become a leading producer of copper and fiber optic cables for the Local Area Network (LAN) market.

The PRESENT

Today, Berk-Tek is well positioned in the Fiber Optic and UTP Copper product lines to serve the LAN, Data Center and Security markets. The opportunities for innovation continue as demands for higher data rates increase. Network speeds transitioning from 100 Megabit to 1 Gigabit to 10 Gigabits per second create opportunities for new products and solutions. Customer consistently recognize Berk-Tek's excellence in quality and service as key differentiators from the competition.
 

The FUTURE

Berk-Tek is always looking towards the future, for new opportunities to maximize system performance for customers. Some of our recent innovations include:

• New Copper/Fiber Composite cable which extends PoE past 100 meters;
• 10G Limited Distance (LD) UTP cable, featuring a significant reduction in the cable diameter versus existing category 6A UTP cables;
• Better-than-Standards' Compliant OM4 Fiber, a 50um laser-optimized fiber with extended bandwidth properties;
• LANmark-10G2 Augmented Category 6 with increased crosstalk parameters.

One of our major advantages in research and development is the presence of the Nexans Data Communications Competence Center (DCCC) at our headquarters in New Holland, Pennsylvania.  The DCCC is a highly-specialized R&D facility with state-of-the-art equipment and highly-trained personnel evaluating cutting-edge technology for use in future Berk-Tek products.
