New Holland, PA – January 13, 2009…Berk-Tek, a Nexans Company (a leading copper and fiber optic cabling manufacturer), along with NVT (manufacturer of CCTV active equipment for convergence to UTP) and JVC (manufacturer of CCTV components – cameras, DVRs, etc.) are combining their expertise in the Electronic Safety and Security (ESS) market to host a 3-hour workshop, “CCTV Convergence: The Path to IP” at the BICSI Winter Conference on Monday, January 19, at the Rosen Shingle Creek Conference Center in Orlando, FL.
Together Berk-Tek, NVT and JVC will provide an insight into how to best prepare I.T. networks for analog, hybrid and emerging IP data, voice, video (CCTV) applications. Topics include selecting cable media (UTP and fiber), connectivity equipment, media conversion, camera types and compression, bandwidth criteria and integration through best practices. The presentation will be followed by a hands-on workshop where attendees will be taught how to build a video surveillance system. Attendees will also receive three Continuing Education Credits (CECs) which can be applied to RCDD, NTS, WD or ITS Installer Technician credentials. The "Convergence to CCTV: The Path to IP" seminar is a follow-up to detailed presentations and workshops based on the popular CCTV Convergence seminars Berk-Tek, NVT, Ortronics/Legrand and S2 Access Control have sponsored throughout the U.S.
Through IP convergence, previously disparate disciplines, including data, video and power, are now being connected together over one standardized structured cabling network to allow the sharing of resources, which provides a higher level of network efficiency, while increasing the network’s return on investment. However, the path to IP encompasses all CCTV scenarios – analog cameras through and IP -- on the network. “Security integrators and I.T. managers will be working together once these previously proprietary devices get attached to the network. Our goal is not only to provide solution sets for all scenarios, but to educate them on the value of installing a quality cabling system today to prepare for a smooth transition to IP tomorrow,” states Carol Everett Oliver, RCDD, Marketing Analyst for Berk-Tek, and one of the speakers. Oliver was recently named to the ASIS Physical Security Council’s education sub-committee.

Parvulescu, a well established IP digital security industry spokesperson will discuss the features and benefits of IP network cameras as compared to analog cameras, megapixel camera technology, Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology for IP cameras and the capabilities of network video recorders.
