GridWeek, the annual gathering for Smart Grid, provides the opportunity for organizations and businesses focused on Smart Grid to hold meetings and participate in collaborative sessions and learn from leading industry experts. The Valley Group is proud to be a Gold Sponsor, and to participate in the Grid Reliability: Hardening our Critical Energy Infranstructure session, held on September 23, 2009, from 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Mr. Sandy Aivaliotis, Senior Vice President of Operations, Technology and Business Development for The Valley Group, will be a panelist for this session. More information on Mr. Aivaliotis.
About this session
A smarter grid should result in better reliability, faster system recovery, and a higher level of resiliency to system disturbances. This session explores various utility systems’ best practices, how they plan to achieve higher reliability, faster system recovery and moving towards a self-healing grid. This session discusses barriers to achieving these objectives and what technology providers and other industry stakeholders need to do to move grids further down this path. The session will answer:
- How will utilities prioritize opportunities for reliability, restoration, and resiliency?
- What are the “low-hanging fruits” that can be capitalized upon to significantly affect grid reliability, restoration, and resiliency that are not being done widespread today?
- How are voltage/VAR optimization, system auto restoration, and device monitoring systems evolving to enable higher levels of grid management?

More about GridWeek
The annual GridWeek, held this year from September 21-24, 2009, in the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, DC, is the key industry event to bring together professionals on all sides of Smart Grid. A realization is emerging that a new view of energy, beyond oil, coal and other fossil fuels, will result in decentralized components of the electricity grid, a far cry from the central generation and structured system of the past. A smart information network - The Energy Internet - for the electric grid is seen as necessary to manage and automate this new world. GridWeek is focused on this vision.
