Armored cars, body armor, and a medieval knight’s “armour” conjure up images of maximum protection systems, which are built tough to last a lifetime. No matter how it spells out, most people think of anything “armored” as very durable, but it is usually not synonymous with flexibility or cost effectiveness, unless it is used in context with fiber optic cabling. Interlocking armor is the ideal way to protect your cable while saving costs and installation time.
 
Protecting your optical fiber cables within the plenum space has traditionally meant using costly conduit or innerduct. Armored cable, particularly fiber optic cable, historically has been specified because of its rugged properties mandated in harsh environment installations, as well as, industrial and hazardous environments. Additionally, it has been gaining popularity in riser and plenum spaces due to its inherent qualities, such as smaller size, extraordinary strength, flexibility and lower cost over conventional installation methods.
