Backbones for datacenters
To serve a growing datacenter market, Nexans developed a new 24-pair (six bundles of four pairs) Category 6A backbone cable which offers exceptional compactness for tight cabinet environments. Nexans Cabling Solutions contributed connectors and accessories.
High capacity, low footprint
This new cable can handle applications up to and above 10 Gigabit Ethernet. With an outer diameter of less than 2 cm, it reduces to a minimum the area occupied by cables in cabinets and in cable ducts, while providing high flexibility. Ideal for 24-port patchpanels, it allows the four-pair bundles to be quickly identified, positioned and connected.
Multum in parvo
Faced with rising broadband demand, businesses either have to lease or create their own datacenters. Cabinets containing servers, air conditioning, patchpanels, connectors and kilometers of cables require capacity, compactness and flexibility.
We used our expertise in LANs and Telecoms to produce a screened cable with multiple pairs. The use of a U/FTP type construction avoids “crosstalk” (XT) of all kinds (inside and between cables). Crosstalk occurs when signals carried on one pair of wires interfere with an adjacent pair carrying another set of signals. Other versions using 12 or 16 pairs are already being considered so that this technology can be used to upgrade less dense classical LANs installations.
Nexans (Fumay) and Nexans Cabling Solutions have already been awarded several new datacenter projects because of this unique cable which outperforms every competing cable on the market.
